Adam's Approach

Adam (he/him and they/them) works to build a genuine relationship with his clients, emphasizing teamwork and encouraging your active participation in the counseling process. He trusts you as the ‘expert’ with the lived experience to help identify realistic solutions to life’s challenges. Using an integrative approach to counseling, he will help you harness inner strengths and self-compassion, while instilling hope and self-confidence to overcome obstacles preventing your personal growth and wellness. Adam most frequently relies on the tenets of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Interpersonal and Feminist theories to guide the therapeutic process.

Counselor, Supervisor, & Sex Therapist

614-957-0164 ext 101

He integrates components of attachment theory and enjoys using humor to connect and support change.

Adam aims to validate and remain sensitive to the power dynamics, political events, and cultural complexities impacting folks with multiple, intersecting identities. As a white queer person, Adam will encourage your questions of him personally and professionally, and will strive toward continuous accountability for the ways his personal lived experiences impact the therapeutic process and your relationship.

Adam especially enjoys working with artists, activists, and professional students.  He is passionate about providing ethical care to persons with marginalized identities, and is committed to the shared development of anti-racist values and identities among other white folks.
Adam grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas.  He has lived in Columbus, Ohio for most of his adult life.  Adam completed his sex therapy training while living in Chicago, Illinois from 2016-2020, where he first met his husband and became a proud 'dog dad' to Baloo.  He returned to Columbus to be back among close family and friends.  Adam wanted to be an actor and a teacher growing up, and never imagined becoming a sex therapist. While he maintains he simply "fell into" the work, he has come to believe it is the greatest privilege to walk 'in tandem' with so many courageous and willing people committed to their own therapeutic journey.
Training and Experience

Adam is a mental health counselor, and a Certified Sex Therapist.  He received his Master of Arts in Counselor Education in 2012 and completed his doctoral candidacy (ABD) in Counselor Education in 2015 with a specialization in gender and sexuality.  Much of his academic interests and research focused on men’s gendered practice of health and wellness, as well as issues relating to gender socialization; LGBTQI-affirmative practice; and sexual violence prevention. He has presented on these topics at the regional and national level, authored peer-reviewed publications, and developed sexual violence prevention programming for men.  He has previous clinical and supervisory experience in grade school, college counseling, and private practice settings, and has really enjoyed his prior work with graduate and professional students.

Deciding against a career in academia, Adam postponed the completion of his doctorate to pursue an interest in human sexuality.  He is especially passionate about helping individuals overcome obstacles to sexual pleasure and intimacy. Adam received his sexual health certificate in 2017 from the University of Michigan School of Social Work and became an AASECT-Certified Sex Therapist in 2018. He is kink-knowledgeable, fetish-friendly, and passionate about supporting the integration of diverse identities and healthy sexual practice.
