Emily's Approach

I (pronouns: she/her) believe effective therapy begins with an authentic counselor-client connection and should include heart and humor when possible. I was drawn to the counseling profession after realizing that I spent much of my life as the person my friends called to process life events. While pursuing my Masters in Counselor Education with the intent to work with couples, I completed my internship as a Mental Health Specialist in a high school. There, I fell in love with working with adolescents and their families and continued to work as a counselor in the middle and high school population for over a decade.

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor

During my time in the school system, I worked with many adolescents and parents experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, and family changes. I also have years of experience working with adolescents exploring and expressing their gender and sexual identities, having been a leader of the PRISM after-school group (a group for LGBTQ+ identified students and their friends). I am adept at navigating through academia and advocating for support for students and their families.

Using techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and art therapy, I cultivate a truly person-centered therapeutic environment. I am also an EMDR trained clinician for work with trauma and other issues. Your goals for therapy are as important to my as they are to you. I will work together with you to find a comfortable pace for self-exploration and working toward your goals.

I spent over a decade in Columbus after coming to the city in 2010 to pursue my Masters in Counselor Education at The Ohio State University. I relocated to the Dayton area to raise my child near family in my hometown. In addition to my love of working with people, I am passionate about music, food, yoga, design, house plants, and learning about native Ohio plants.
