Marjorie

Marjorie Grafton, MSW, LISW-S, RYT-200, CST

My (Pronouns: she/her) approach to therapy is grounded in authentic expression and mutual respect. As a social worker, I value each client’s right to self determination and see you as the true authority on your own experience. I view my role as that of a guide, offering up the education I have as a bridge to your own self-exploration. My hope is that together, we create a safe space for deep reflection, insight, and growth. Therapeutically, I have always been drawn to the way we relate to the body. Your body is your home, but many of us feel disconnected from ourselves due to the pressures and oppression we face in the modern world. I have worked with clients on many of these spots of disconnection ranging from eating disorders to chronic illness to sexuality and pleasure. Using the tenets of Acceptance and Commitment therapy, mindfulness, and sex therapy approaches, I hope to make this space feel a little more like home again.

I grew up in a small town in southeast Ohio, but have called Columbus home since 2006. I am a proud dog mom to two pups, Benny and Holo. When not working with clients, I can be found catching up with friends and family, enjoying a good book, or being active through yoga and running. I also deeply love animals and hold a long time dream of being a docent at the Columbus Zoo.

Personal

I completed my Bachelor’s in Psychology and Disability Studies in 2010 and my Master’s in Social Work in 2012, both from The Ohio State University. I spent the first years of my career working in eating disorder treatment, using an interdisciplinary model of care to treat adults with a wide array of eating disorders and other commonly co-occuring mental health concerns. During this time I received training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I later spent several years working in chronic illness and disability, obtaining extensive training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, the modality I utilize most often in my work today. I also have training in Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma. In 2022, I began post-graduate training in sexual health and sex therapy through the University of Michigan, completing my certificate in early 2023. I am currently working toward becoming a Certified Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, anticipating this during the fall of 2023. Additionally, I became a Registered Yoga Teacher in 2022 and have experience integrating yoga and mental health both in individual and group settings. I truly value ongoing education and am always interested in learning new theories and tools to help both myself and the clients that I work with.

I value ongoing training and education. Below are some of the recent training experiences I have engaged in:

  • Anti-oppression Informed Practice Certificate, National Association of Social Work Ohio Chapter, 2021.

  • ACT Boot Camp, Steven Hayes, Kelly Wilson, and Robyn Walser, 2019.
